Remote Access worldwide - what's the magic formula ?

The Skipper's Mate Boat Server is set to touch base with the Central Server at regular intervals, updating its IP address whether it's using 3G/4G or wireless backhaul. Most broadband providers change the IP address of client devices on a regular basis.

This means that the Central Server knows the Internet address for your boat and can redirect you to the Boat Server when you log into the web site. This information is private and secure - accessible only to you and anyone you to whom you choose to give the user and password details.

The brief conversations between the Boat Server and the Central Server take very little bandwidth. Obviously when you wish to use this feature you need to ensure that you have a current connection (e.g. an in-date PayUGo SIM or a contract SIM or a wireless connection).

Remote Access is free of charge. If you choose extra storage on the Central Server for some of the data generated by your Boat Server then there is a small optional charge - similarly if you want to receive SMS messages as well as or instead of emails when an alert is generated this involves a small charge.
